Are we predetermined by the information encoded in our DNA or is our free will that defines us?
Genome and Identity shows silhouettes of humans, portraits or parts of these decontextualized by DNA sequencing ladders, fingerprints, boxes with test tubes containing DNA samples or the tissues that exist behind the skin. All of these images are deconstructions of the idea of the portrait, extending the classical definition to novel molecular contexts and attempting to inquire into the real identifiers of our being and becoming. As a whole, the black and white images of Genome and Identity beg the questioning of our ideas about how we identify ourselves and how we classify others.
